Finding Your Purpose: What Now?

Finding Your Purpose: What Now?

Maybe you’ve figured out who you are, or maybe you’re still working on it. Either way, one question sticks around for all of us: What am I supposed to do with my life?

This question hit me hard after I realized my identity is found in Jesus. And the answer? It’s right there in the Gospel of Matthew:

“You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
- Matthew 5:14-16

You Are the Light of the World

Being the light isn’t about spotlight or fame. It’s about shining God’s love in a world desperate for hope. So many people around us feel empty and lost, trying to fill their hearts with stuff that just doesn’t satisfy: drugs, distractions, approval, or other quick fixes.

But the truth is, only Jesus fills that emptiness.

Jesus changed me. He helped me break free from anxiety and addictions. But that freedom isn’t meant to be kept secret. It’s meant to be shared. We have the light, and we can’t keep it hidden.

What can you do to be a light? Guide the lost

Throughout the Bible, we see how much Jesus sought out the lost. The stories of the lost sheep, leaving the 99 for the 1. The story of the lost coin, or the prodigal coin.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
- Luke 19:10

But so often we are passive in sharing. We have the cure to help people be found, and yet we rarely share. We are scared: maybe of rejection, making a fool of ourselves, not knowing what to say.

I have heard all the arguments: “I am not an evangelist,” “I'm no missionary,” “I don’t know what to say…” We have so many excuses.

Overcoming Fear to Share Your Faith

I won't lie to you…sharing our faith is scary, it is easy to be unsure of what to say. I will be the first to say evangelism scares me, but God called me to do it.

But let me ask you this…were the original disciples of Jesus? When Jesus called them, were they evangelists or missionaries? Did they know what to say? No!!!

They were simple people, basic laborers, some barely educated, some maybe even not adults…but they had something so much greater. They had Jesus, they had faith, and they had the will to do something.

We don’t have to be perfect. We just have to be willing.

Jesus’ Call to Everyone

That call isn’t just for missionaries or pastors. Not everyone is an evangelist, but we are all called to share our faith!

Jesus’ final command before He went back to heaven was crystal clear:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
- Matthew 28:19-20

It is also a call to us! A call that I answered:

I was in Mexico, one day out doing some evangelism. I don’t speak Spanish, I was in an unfamiliar area, but I went with some others. As I was walking, I saw a young man who was 18 years old. I grabbed a friend of mine to translate and approached him. I asked if I could share something with him. I shared how all of us had been separated from God because of our sins. But because God loved us so much, He sent Jesus, His son, to die as a sacrifice for our wrongs. He was betrayed and murdered by the very people He went to save. He never did anything wrong, and yet they hated Him. He was killed by the Pharisees and Romans on a cross and then buried in a cold tomb. But that three days later, Jesus rose from the grave, and because He died and beat death, He is able to cover and forgive our sins. And so Jesus has become a bridge to allow us to be restored to God. I told this to the young Mexican man and asked if he would like Jesus in his life. That Jesus wanted a relationship with Him. And he said yes, and asked Jesus into his life.

So many people are just waiting to hear. All we need to do is tell them. And in that moment, I found my purpose in making Jesus a priority.

So often we wait for the perfect moment to share our faith, but there is rarely the perfect moment. The moment IS NOW!!! We need to prioritize our lives with the maximum value on lost souls!

Each one of us has people we know who are lost, hopeless, depressed, passive, or cold. We each know people, from our schools, from work, or in our friend circles, or even our own family.

Be a Light to Your World

Your story matters. Your light matters. You can make a difference wherever you are: at school, work, or in your neighborhood.

So, what’s holding you back from shining your light today?
